Although a different vibe often seems to be pervasive on our planet these days, true friends stick by their friends through thick and thin, not just fair weather. True friends do not desert their friends, they care for them. As the poet W.H. Auden articulated in the poem he wrote on the occasion of the outbreak of World War II, September 1, 1939: “We must love one another or die.” Whenever we do NOT love one another, we are heartlessly DEAD inside.
